Does anybody know what the electrical connector on the bonnet catch is for?

I noticed yesterday mine had been snapped off and the cable is dangling in front of the rad fans, wondered whether it was actually needed?

Oliver, do you have an up close photo of that bonnet latch where the contact switch connects to? Reason I ask is after putting mine all back together following an engine change, it was the one bit of wiring the couldn't figure out where it went
