Guys, at some point in the nearer future, the Rallye will be getting its engine rebuilt. As I'm going completely OEM (at least externally) then the block will be getting vapour blasted along with the gearbox, and I will then rebuild it.

I'm still toying with the idea of putting a set of cams in it whilst it's apart. Visually from the outside, no one will be able to tell that. That's still only a consideration though as I know I'll have to pocket the pistons for any cam with a decent lift/duration value.

Anyhow, my questions remain about what to replace and costs etc?

I'd imagine new rod and main bearings, rings, cambelt and water pump, gasket set etc. Understand that as long as the pistons and bores are still within tolerance, they will be OK so no need for replacement or a bore job. Is it worth having the bored honed again? Will also have the crank measured as well and see if my local crank guy has anything to say on it.

Any ideas how much bearing sets, rings and gaskets will cost? I've not really researched much at all into this yet, hence my post asking.

Also, anyone (Carl??) know anywhere decent in Leicester for vapour blasting?

Cheers

Cheers Mei.....makes sense I guess.

Used to rebuilding air-cooled engines, tolerances etc all different, generally fairly easy! This will be my first water-cooled lump build.
