Never has the expression "bag of nails" been more appropriate!

Bump Wink

so having a bit of time spare I got on to pulling the head off and was greeted by this.

So riddle me this, why only 2 valves in 1 cylinder?
Incidentally, they're not bent either. I've put them in the lathe and they're perfectly straight.

So I went a looking further down and into the bowels.
hmmmm! well that's just disappointing, me thinks they not mean't to look like this.

Surprisingly the crank mics up pretty good and only needs a polish.
The same can't be said for the rod though Thumbs down

Yeah it's spun alright.
There's nearly 3/4 mm clearance in the cap

Haha only just watched your video it's the change in volume of the noise when rev'd that gives away it's probably bottom end related. I've owned a tapper before and it ticked just as loud at low revs as it did at higher revs didn't increase or decrease at all as was just valve rattling in the guide not crank journal being thrown around haha. Has it oval'd the cap or is it just where the shall has warn as it's spun?

Well technically speaking it was a tapper, it's just the reason behind the tapping wasn't because the valves were bent or the guides damaged.
I haven't measured the cap and rod yet but it has a nasty sharp edge around the bearing tunnel.
You could move the rod about 3/4 mm on the crank.
If I can't find a standard rod, I'll have to put some carillo rods and ppm pistons in it, which seems a bit of a waste for a standard engine.

I'll keep that in mind.
Shipping to the arse end of the world tends to be rather expensive unfortunately, that and our dollar only being worth . . . . well nothing. Thumbs down

Not just a spun bearing so it turns out, crank is bent and #3 journal is .8mm worn.
Also looks like the engine has been cooked at some stage.
