I'm getting a raspy noise from somewhere at ~2950rpm, only when the car is up to temperature.

Noise seems to originate from the engine bay but it's really hard to tell where exactly whilst driving. It's much harder to detect when listening in the engine bay as it's so noisy.

Doesn't happen at any other rpm just ~2950rpm without fail when the engine is hot. Happens on both acceleration and deceleration through 2950rpm as well as when holding the engine constantly at that speed.

The sound itself is sort of like a pile of gravel or coarse sand sliding across a plastic surface, making a raspy noise.

Anyone got any ideas?

Sorry welshpug, do you mean the metal heat shield closest to the cam covers on the exhaust side of the engine?

Ok I'll have a look asap! My apologies, I should really brush up on my engine terminology!

I got the same at 3800 rpm. I've had the car for 5 years and never found it. LOL
It'll do it constantly if held at those revs too.
