Does anyone know what maximum width tyre i can use on a 17x7" wide rim ET15, before it gets too close to the gearbox end case on full lock. I currently have 205 mm width fitted without issues.
Thanks,
Rouben.

205 is ideal with the low profile, with a taller sidewall such as on a 15" you can go to 195.

The tyres look too skinny on the 7" rim and can easily be kerbed, I already caught the kerb once last week but luckily didn't touch the rim. I would prefer a higher sidewall though, for a bit of comfort and better looks.

OUCH... after 26 years of driving, I don't think I'm going to start learning now. Too many other things in life to do.

Got 17x7 comp Mo5s & have the same problem with rims out further than tyre ...go any wider than 205 & the sidewall hits the suspension also ...

Gone to 16s Pro1.2 that still fit my 330 Brakes..195/50/16 ...as Mei said not a problem now Thumbs up

hehe, nothing personal Razz

out of necessity the saxo rally car only has 200 wide tyres on 7" rims, nice perfectly square sitting tyres, but rims are all wider.

However a wheel is usually cheaper than our tyres....

To be fair I'd have said exactly the same as WP there LOL

Been running 205 40 17 tyres on 17x7" wheels for years and never touch a kerb (touch wood....)

I use michelin ps3's which have a decent size rim protector on them anyway but not sure the Rubber would do much protecting against a Stone kerb.

205 is the widest you'll get on a lowered 6 without rolling the arches big time.

I will jack the car up put something high enough under the wheels let it down, and crawl under to see how much clearance there is. The ride height is standard at the moment so I don't have any clearance issues.

I've always found any I've run that have been et15 have rubbed slightly on the rear arches over bumps when lowered 30-40mm but the superleggeras I'm currently running don't rub at all yet according to offset they are further out.... they only made them in ford fitment ET37 with genuine Oz 26mm hubcentric spacers and longer bolts. Offset works out et11 but they don't rub at all anywhere.

No choice at the moment, I sold my Xantia to save money on Tax and insurance, and only have one car for now. Anyway they are old wheels, its just I spent a couple of day rubbing down and repainting them.
