Got a bit of a funny one- indicators work as normal, but sometimes when driving around or at a standstill I can hear the motor ticking away inside the column like crazy. The arrows on the dash don't light up when this happens, and they don't flash on the exterior. Any one heard of this before or know what it is?

It's a common problem and can usually be fixed DIY style

There is an FAQ guide for this here:

Mine did it intermittently for about a year and all of a sudden one day it melted inside and a thin plume of smoke came out.

If you can, I'd advise buying a new stalk as the old one will be getting a bit long in the tooth by now.

I've carried out the fix and is still working perfectly. I have had one that badly smoked.

Yeh had this on a 306 of mine years ago think I half put the indicators on rather than fully clicked it on just to pull over quick and a load of smoke came out and the relay made a horrible buzzing noise lol. New stalk sorted it straight away.
