Hi to all from New Zealand

I really need help

I have just done an engine transplant, 1997 GTI6 engine (full rebuild) into a 1995 XSI (2L 8V) and ran into big problems.
Engine loom transfered at same time. initial start-up engine wound over but no fire. suspected locked ECU. Purchased an unlocked ECU from Cartech electronics ltd. Installed the new ECU (IAW 1AP .10). Engine runs, but only on 2 cylinders (2and 4) 1 and 3 have no spark or fuel. Emails back and forth have not been able to trace the problem so far.
I cannot get a flash code (cannot find a green plug) and there is'nt an OBD port under the dash.
I have changed crank angle, cam sensors and coilpacks. Has anybody done this transplant before? Could you Please HELP !! whilst I still have some hair to pull out

This thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=150807 should help you find out whether the ECU is sending the correct signals to drive the coils and injectors for cylinders 1 & 3.

the ODB plug is under the dash on the p2/p3, but on the P1 it's a green plug next to the ECU. so you won't have it (assuming you have a p1 car with a p2/p3 engine and loom)

Check the double relay is working ok. Also check pins into the ecu are all ok.

Does the flywheel make a difference? In terms of its signal to the crank sensor

When the engine is running check to see if you have 12v at the injectors and coil packs when they are unplugged. If not, trace the wiring back in the loom and to the ECU pins. If there is no signal there the ECU drivers could well not be working correctly.

As Rikky says you won't have an OBD port or green plug on a later loom so diagnostics won't work.

Are the 8v and 16v flywheels the same for the crank sensor. Which did you fit? I think they probably are but just thinking..

Hi Guys
Can you tell me if this will work.
I still have the donor car that I removed the engine from. If I take the OBD plug with a length of wiring( the 3 wires to the ECU ) and splice them into the correct wires close to the ECU, should we be able to run a diagnostic that way ??
Thanks in advance

yes, you might need a switched 12v too, possibly an earth.

Hi Guys
Sorry to be a pain
I have taken the OBD plug from the donor car, but wire colour code does not match the wiring diagrams. According to the diagram, should be 3=red 7=green 15=beige
on this plug I have 1=red, 2 blank, 3=2browns, 4=light green/yellow, 5=dark green/yellow, 6=grey, 7=orange, 8=(smaller) red, 9=blank, 10=blank, 11=mauve, 12=(2)orange and brown, 13=(2)mauve and grey, 14=grey, 15=blue/grey, 16=beige.

According to wiring diagrams 3 to 42, 7 to 31, 15 to 12, plug to ECU
getting very confused
