Got my spare bottom end all stripped down and in at the engine builders we use through work to have the bores honed. I plan to pretty much replace everything i need to, seals, bearings and rings. Bottom ends always seem to be the problem on most my failed engine so want to build a good one what i know will last.

After a set of ACL big end bearings, where can i get a set from and how much? Sure someone on here was selling them for around £65?
Standard OE main bearings - £25
Crank thrust washers - £15
Vauxhall C20LET piston rings - £60
ARP rod bolts £105
2x crank seals - £30
Block honed - £30

Total build cost around - £330

These prices are just what i have found on the net. I will be trying peugeot for main bearings, thrust washers and crank seals. Crank is fine, no wear marks and bottom end came off an engine with bad piston oil rings, use to smoke a little.

Anything i have missed off what people think should be added let me know Thumbs up

bores are likely to be well past spec to be honed.

I just get all the bearings and seals from a local engine re builders, as they have fps deliver to them every day, usually oayen seals and gaskets, acl and king bearings.

check the thrust washers before buying new as they do last well.

arp rod bolts is a waste of cash.

I will see what engine builder says when he gets back to me about the block and see if he can supply bearings and seals ect... we can usually get most stuff ordered in same or next day through work so just thought it would keep cost down building the bottom end myself at work than having engine builder do it.
Thrust washers you may be right to be honest they look fine but then again so do all the bearings but changine them just for piece of mind.
what would you recommend for rod bolts? Use ones that or in or replace for new standard ones? Engine bores didnt really have much wear on compared to other engines I have had

Been speaking to engine builders today and there is too much wear on my spare block. He said he could hobe it but new rings wouldnt really do much if I was planning on using it as it would smoke so he options were:

*Buy a better condition block
*Buy oversized forged pistons
* use different pistons from another car. Had a look through his book and says the best choice of pistons would be from a Fiat brava 1.6 16v as they are 86.4mm with a 22mm gudgeon pin but would need about 2mm took off the crown. Bore the block out to suit and do a dummy build.

I know my best option would be to get a good condition block but finding one of them is not easy as I am taking someones word for it till I get to to builders for him to say exactley the same again.

Sure I read a little while ago someone was using nissan 300zx pistons or something along them lines? Any other options? I do plan to go boost but nothing over the top. 250-300bhp max with a GT2560 turbo. I know there is people who have ran around 270bhp on a charged standard engine.

depends which rods you are using, standard are a faff as the pin is a shrink fit not bushed and clipped.

have you checked the valve centres on the fiat pistons?

He was saying the fiat pistons have quite a deep crown thats why he mentioned about machining them down and still be plenty left. Not really looked into it yet as its just a possibility. Got a price for rods and pistons through work at around £700 whats not as bad as I was expecting to be honest and that was 87mm low compression pistons.

what sort of price would you be looking at devere
