Guys,

Engine will be coming out of the Rallye soon so I can get into the engine bay to get all the crusty bits sorted. Mate has a bottom end from a 2ltr cab knocking about. I *think* the bottom ends were the same, was just the head that differed. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

Block is the same - the cab engine probably won't have the under piston oil spray bars though.

Compression is also set at 10.4:1, whereas the Rallye lump is 10.8:1.

Thanks Stan.

Compression difference can only be two things. Pistons or head?

No worries Tom!

To be honest, there isn't a huge amount to update at the moment. I haven't really done much. In the next week or so it will be dragged off to my mates unit so we can finish the underside prep. We will also be taking the engine out of his GTi6 as its breathing very heavily and looks like the rings have gone so will be using that as a learn to take mine out so I can tidy the engine bay. Have, through my mate who owns the unit, been introduced to a guy who is a paint/restoration type. Have agreed that he will spray the underside and engine bay in 2k paint for £200. Will be a far, far better job than I'd get using rasttle cans.

I'll update my project thread in a bit

pistons, they have a pronounced dish rather than the barely perceptible one on the rs.

Thanks Mei.....It had to be them or the head...

I was planning on building up the bottom end on that block and making it all fancy etc and then just dropping the head on from my Rallye. I guess I'd probably be better off finding a Rallye block...

That's a very good price Ben. I was going to do that to mine having done all the underneath at the back - but after having the welding done, i really just want it back on the road for a bit - bloody sick of it sat in the garage Sad Good luck with yours Thumbs up
