Guys,

Not ready or technically savvy enough yet (need to do some more reading...) to fully remove the subframe. However, I do need to get this heatshield off.

Is it possible to undo the subframe and drop it down to give some clearance, without removing it or having to undo anything. I think perhaps I only need a few inches of clearance.

All the bolts are loose except one of the front ones in the drivers side arch. That's no issue as I'll just undo the two 13 mm bolts holding the mount to the chassis leg. I don't believe the main 18mm bolt is threaded into the leg is it?

Which end for the linkage rod bud? Gear stick or gearbox end? Already off the the gearstick end.

Any pointers or a picture of where to undo the column please?

Cheers for the help by the way!

13mm nut where its clamped to the steering rack, the subframe end of the gear rod may need to be moved to clear the heatshield.

Subframe is a piece of p**s don't need to remove the rack or pas pipes with it unless you intend to change the rack.... Pop the lower balljoints out undo the ARB links, undo lower engine mount fork, unbolt the rack from the subframe and the few bolts that hold the pipes to the subframe, un clip the clutch cable from the front, take off the gear linkage and undo all subframe bolts job done...
