So I decided to refurb a set of 18mm hubs even though bearings felt ok. I managed to push the hub out the bearing then found a dry set of ball bearings inside the actuall hub carrier.

Getting the remainder of the bearing out was fun but seem to have the nack now

Will tidy up the whole lot then paint them both and install a new set of sky bearings and febi hubs (both are not cheap) will upload pics once looking nice Thumbs up

I can maybe do this on exchange basis if anyone is interested ? Be warned bearings and hubs are pretty pricey Yes

That they are. Cost me £130 to have the old bearings pressed out and new ones pressed in . That was for the pair with me supplying the bearings.

Circlips snapping adds to the man hours, was 3 in my case, and needing to exceed the 10 tonne press rating adds up to dollars

That's pricey I assume they had to take them off the car ?

Bearings and bus come in around £100 ish for both sides and I had no trouble getting the old sir lips out or pressing bearings out ?

For just labour I'd clean the hubs (wire rotary brush on a grinder) and paint them for £130

no mate I took the hubs to them off the car. They were a nightmare for them though. The circlips snapped, one of them twice. And we were all stood hiding round the corner while the apprentice pumped the handle on the press to get the bearings out. We didn't half jump when they came loose with an almighty BANG!

As said it took them a good 3 hours so £130 is pretty good. Plus I know them and know no hammers were involved which is worth quite a lot to me.

I did well then with a 12 ton press hubs poped out fine and bearings only put up half a fight

It's not that exciting dude I takes longer to prop the hubs up than actually pressing out the bearings . Getting the ones back in might prove a bit harder

cleaned my hubs with electrolysis before attempting to remove anything once clean the clips bearings and sensors came out quit well Wink

Ive just done mine, getting the circlips out was a pain but once i got them out i soaked them in wd40 over night and then my 15 ton press made short work lol

I did this with the dimma hubs but got them powder coated! Like you say wasn't cheap but now look the tits and are minty fresh Smile

Chris, powder coat them! Lot better than painting them

Pressing the hub out the middle is a doddle. Hardly takes any force if you do it straight with the right tool. However the bearings can be tight as f**k on 306's Had to heat the bollox out of the last one I did from a phase 1 was properly seized in. Replaced the old press at work with a 50 tonne one end of last year. Most things come out without to much trouble now LOL

Trying to keep costs down so rattle can is the way forward as I have loads at work after all no one will see them. How did you get the abs sensors out without f**king them up ?

once the hub was clean i tapped them out with a socket and hammer,
find a socket that just fits over the magnetic tab and tap it to push the sensor out,
think i used a deep 3/8 drive 10mm socket reversed so the sockets 3/8 large surface area was against the plastic of the sensor

If you do it in bulk and use the right company powder coating will be cheaper, less prep work and time is money
