Evening everyone,

Need a bit of help, rebuilding the car ended up going with some baker bm adjustable top mounts, which I thought all was well with. The spax rsx coilovers I have, when fitted with sleeved nuts supplied from bakerbm, mean there is barely any thread to bite onto which is a bit worrying!

So in the best view, I've decided to change coilovers completely. I have been recommended avo, and also sent an email off to them to try and get the measurement for the thread that the top mount bolts too. I don't suppose anyone else has had this problem? Or if not whether they have any measurements on the amount of thread?

Any help appreciated!

Hi. I run BakerBM top mounts and Spax RSX coilovers. I have about 3mm or so of thread left after they are fitted.

Don't buy AVO's over Spax.

Perhaps you could poat a pic of what you have so I can compare.

Managed to take some pictures!

That's the complete length of thread

With Spacer

With Top Mount

With Sleeved nut

Overall, it does seem to only screw onto the cut away thread which is around 3-4mm.

If you any could advise, that would be great!

what does your top spring pan look like?

how tall is the sleeve nut?

I would look to see if its possible to just do away with the spacer, you might not need it.

Ah now I remember having the same problem.... I marked 20mm down from the top of the strut (actually 20mm below the threaded part) and ground the shaft down until the spherical bearing just drops onto it, so all the thread is still showing above.

If you take your time and use a bench grinder with a flat grinding wheel you end up with about a 1mm step which will stop the shaft pushing further through the bearing. Seriously, if you have your springs removed its about a 10min job to do. Definitely worth the effort.

Done several track days since and its spot on.

Can you not just go to a machine shop and turn most of the bottom off the spacer? That would take a couple of minutes to do both.

Appreciate the help from everyone in the end, managed to get the bottom spacer machined down. Didn't want to try it at first as didn't know if they needed to retain the depth. All good now though.

Got a family friend who works in a fabricating shop, managed to do it for free which saves a fair few hundred quid!
