Hi,

I hope somebody will be able to help me.

I sold my Diablo red 306 GTI-6 a few years ago with the registration plate M19 OEB.

The guy I sold it to promised he would transfer the plate back to me but this never happened.

I am desperately trying to track down the new owner of the vehicle so I can get the number plate transferred back onto my new car.

I am willing to pay any costs incurred to the new owner plus a little extra if they are willing to help me out.

would you be willing if I were to pay all fee's associated to transfer the number plate over to my car as I have been trying to get it back for a while as that reg was a birthday present from my parents.

I would give you a few quid for your troubles.

had you planned on getting the car MOT'd or are you using it as a track car off the road?

from what I can gather from searching online it only needs to have been MOT'd within the last 12 months and be taxed.
I dont see why you would need a valid MOT to transfer a plate from a car it is only that they can update the cert with the valid reg. But its all done online these days same with tax you dont tend to get a cert or tax disc.

"Conditions for transferring a registration number
You can’t transfer a registration number:

starting with ‘Q’ or ‘NIQ’ for Northern Ireland registered vehicles
if it will make the vehicle it’s being transferred to look younger
Both vehicles must be:

registered with DVLA
available for inspection
of a type that needs an MOT or heavy goods vehicle (HGV) test certificate
Pre-1960 vehicles need a valid MOT to transfer a registration number.

Both vehicles should be currently taxed. However, if the vehicle that currently has the registration number is not taxed, you can still apply as long as:

its vehicle tax has run out in the last 12 months
there’s no break between the date the vehicle tax runs out and the start of the SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification)
Northern Ireland registered numbers

You can transfer a Northern Ireland registration number between vehicles registered at DVLA, Swansea and the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA), Northern Ireland.

Both vehicles must meet the conditions to transfer a registration number. Contact DVA for more information."

It only states pre-1960 vehicles need a valid MOT

"Road Tax and MOT requirements. Generally, vehicles must have valid tax (or be tax exempt) and if over three years old, a valid MOT test certificate to be eligible. However, if the donor vehicle’s tax and / or MOT has expired it may still be possible to transfer or retain its registration mark provided, at the time of application, the following conditions apply:

The tax expired within six months of the transfer application.
You were the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time the tax expired.
The tax expired naturally, i.e., you didn’t apply for a refund.
The MOT was valid at the time the tax expired.
There is no break between the date the tax disc runs out and the start of the SORN.
In all cases you will need to submit the MOT certificate, valid or expired and all vehicles must be clearly identifiable from their chassis numbers.

Note: If the MOT has expired, you can still transfer or retain the registration mark provided the road tax is valid at the time of the transfer application and that you were the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time the MOT expired.

You must not dispose of the vehicle until you have received a replacement V5C. The law states that any new keeper of a vehicle is entitled to keep its registration number should they wish if they were sold the vehicle before the seller receives a replacement V5C vehicle registration document."
