My drivers seat has seen better days now and looking very worn on the right hand seat part and on the bolster, i was wondering if anyone has had there seats repaired and if so what would be a rough cost? and also is it worth it or is it better to try and get hold of some second hand ones? all help would be appreciated Smile

The problem with second hand ones is that normally the drivers seat is shagged anyway. There are seats that come up for sale that don't have rips and holes but you have to be fast to beat everyone to them. Getting them re trimmed is something you would have to look into

I see tons of cars retrimmed at the place i had my audio done. Lots of fancy stitching etc. He was telling me that lots of cars arrive in the UK and the factor leather optional extra is put on by local companies.

I'm due to visit him to show him my 6 for a coffee and a chat. When i'm over next (weather getting in the way) i'll ask him for a rough price.

Yeah, i've seen them come up for sale, but as you say Mossy most already have damage and wear to the drivers seat so will have a look in the re-trim and thanks MisterGTR if you could get us a rough price that would be great Smile thanks

ohh right, that could be a little out of my price range, does anyone know what the material is? as i have a friend who used to upholster aircraft seats so could call in a couple of favours if i could get hold of the right material

Its called Phoenix cloth but no longer available. If its the pattered part of your cloth that is actually damaged, your best bet would be to try and buy a back seat from someone as these usually change hands much cheaper than front seats. Then you can use the rallye cloth from that to stitch into the front seat. If it's just the black ribbed cloth that makes up the side parts of the seat then any decent upholsterer will be able to match this from his supplier. Mine found at least ten other models that use very similar cloth. I think an earlier version of the Golf had the exact same shade and texture as used in the rallye.
