Evening all,
Im using BCR8ES in my eaton 6 as recommended by T&R and Sandy. Im chasing a misfire and have replaced the plugs after it was misfiring but have left them at the standard gap which I've noticed is quite big. What would people recommend they are gapped to?

Cheers

plugs are no longer designed to be gapped, so if they aren't damaged you wont need to touch them.

Right i didnt know that. Ta.
Having a right issue with this.

ECU has been back to Omex and checked. All ok and he replaced the coil driver anyway. Replaced the coil pack, replaced the plugs, checked the loom.

Had a belt off of one of the coil pack bolts the other day as well whilst trying to find issues so I'm thinking i may have high resistance somewhere if its choosing to go through me instead lol

sounds like that coil is dead/dying then.

Could be but what are the chances of two dead coils both on cylinder 1&4? May see if there is one about i can borrow.

given the age of them, quite possible I think.

that would be the only reason to get a belt from one, you're running standard ones still correct?

No. Im running a XSi wasted spark coil hence the loosing spark on 1 and 4.

Its an odd one. Its started as a intermittent single miss then on the m25, cut out on 1 and 4 completely. Pulled over, called the RAC, waited an hour and by the time they turned up (cooled down), it run spot on. Then did 200 miles in it and same thing happened. RAC turned up in 15 minutes and it was dropping in and out of sparking but when it wasn't, there was no spark from the coil pack on 1&4.

sounds 100% like a failing coil then.

The all-in-one coil packs are like that, run fine and then not. I got a estate with the 2.0l petrol and I parked it up one day went to go out an hour and a half later and would only run on two under load, but idle was fine.

Why are you running that anyway as opposed to the individuals?

Why not just clone (line tap) the trigger signal to the individual coils? Makes these situations a little easier to diagnose and replace

Because the ECU needs modifying by omex for that as its running incorrect resistances in the singe coils instead of the wasted spark one.
New coil fitted and it seems a fair bit happier. When i had the coil pack out, i cleaned up some bits and then refitted and drop tested it to find I've got some fairly high resistance between the engine and battery. Earth strap has seen better days so I've ordered all the gear to make my self a new one so hopefully will fix this once and for all!
Also got a new CPS as very occasionally the old one used to play up. Highly doubtful it was that but you never know.
