My car has started handling like crap, feels disconnected. I've noticed play in the steering wheel both vertically and horizontally. Could this be the steering column? If so, would I have to replace the whole column? Thanks in advance! |

Mate, I'd seriously get that checked out by someone who knows what they are doing ASAP if I were you, as it sounds like it has safety implications. Not sure it would be the column itself, more likely to be something loose where the rack bolts to the subframe or other loose bolts etc. Could be someone who worked on the car a while ago not torquing things up properly/left bolts out/used incorrect fastenings and now coming loose. Impossible to know what it is without getting the car on a hoist and seeing what is going on. ________________________________________ Cherry Rallye SOLD |

I've checked subframe bolts, wishbone bolts, ball joints bolts, hubs and track rods..... all torqued up. Ive done a search which has lead to me to think its the column. Though getting it checked by a professional is probably the best thing to do. |

Last time i experienced this i think it was on a punto, it was a security bolt on the actual column mount that had worked loose a tiny bit. Just take all your cowling off and wiggle it and look for play inside the car.________________________________________ PaulHiding with Pride |

Will double check p bushes, they're fairly new vibratechnics and were torqued up properly, i hope its not them.... really don't want to buy another set! Ball joints are fairly new too but ill double check everything again. The steering wheel has a few mm play left to right. Will get the cowling off when I get a chance. Thanks for the input and help. |
