Are these any good? Seen a load of cheap ones on eBay but I'm sceptical.

well the main headlights are halogen ones, and the sidelights are 501's. if you mean the sidelights, they don't emit anywhere near enough light anyway to light anything up. the main ones need to be halogen as they're not projector headlights so the xenon ballasts and cheapo aftermarket HID's aren't right for the unit

i had the LED sidelight bulbs in mine for about a week and took them back out. same with the xenon HID's

Main advantage of LED sidelight bulbs, numberplate bulbs etc is less heat and lower current draw (so less heat and stress on wiring), and for those so inclined there is the additional benefit that they are brighter and can be blue/white for da wicked bling look innit.

The P3 headlights with good quality bulbs like Philips Vision Plus give excellent lighting and are all you really need.

Just search on ebay for H7 100w. Theyre about £6 a pair and no better or worse quality than Halfords most expensive ones. Theyre bright as fook too.

Also, if you can get a Halfords trade card bulbs in there are cheap as.

The headlight wiring wasn't designed for 100w bulbs and after 15 years deterioration and increased resistance from dirty contacts etc make it even more likely you will melt something - probably the headlight switch in the stalk or in the headlight where the base of the bulb sits. If you want to fit them (for off-road use only, officer) then you will need to fit a wiring loom taking a fused heavy duty feed directly from the battery or alternator, controlled using the old lighting loom to switch relays. If sticking with factory wiring best to stay with standard wattage 55/60w bulbs. I found the Philips +65% bulbs I mentioned on ebay for half RRP.

Yeah but it will be fine if you bridge the fuse with an aluminium Kit Kat foil wrapper won't it?

What was the results? I watched for a couple of minutes but got sick of listening to him rabble on without seeing anything.
Just had a quick read up and It's all old technology by the sound of it now, lasers are the next thing, ive read the bmw i8 will be the first car to use them on its high beam.

I've got some new headlights to go in the Rallye (eventually) and i've got some LUCAS xenon 90's to go in, supposedely 90% brighter so we'll see what happens. As regards LED's i have some in my passat number plate lights and they are great, very bright, clear white light, i'll be putting them in the Rallye number plate lights for deffo.

I was wondering about the H7 LED's but only ones I've seen are wry cheap quality.

And as far as 501 LED's I wouldn't be without them now on any of my cars. They brighten up the look and make the car look a lot less dated IMO particularly with decent ones for number plates.

The crappy little single "LED" 501 bulbs are awful. They last 5 minutes and aren't very bright also don't give a very good spread. All of mine are SMD LED's which are vastly superior and seem to last an awful lot longer.

There are newer ones which are CRE LED's which are even brighter and come with projector lenses on some. There's an even better variant which are stupidly bright like HID bright but the name escapes me.
