Hi Gents

Thought I better introduce myself, I'm Chris, based near Worcester, and I've just bought a slightly rough but well spec'd white GTi 6 which has stickers on it from here and the previous owner also mentioned this site

I can see posts on the car dating back to 2010 so it's been around a bit! But Martin the old owner has clearly invested well in a great spec.......I'm stuck in a world of 4x4's and company cars, so I've bought it as a track car and intend to get a few mechanical niggles sorted, upgrade some key bits (cage, buckets and engine at some point)

Spec as it is now:

· bilstein B8 dampers
· eibach springs
· bakerbm group n engine mounts
· top engine mount cup repair (common issue with cracking)
· RichW (306GTi-6 forum) rebuilt cylinder head with triple layer metal gasket (cambelt done at same time)
· RichW (306GTi-6 forum)roller bearing front wishbone conversion
· rose joint front anti roll bar drop links
· solid rear axle mounts
· hi spec 300mm 4 pot front brake kit with yellowstuff pads and braided brake lines
· front strut brace
· k&n air filter in standard air box
· speedline 16 inch alloys with Toyo Proxes4 195/45/16 tyres
· magnex cat back stainless exhaust (decat / centre box also included)
· recaro drivers seat on adjusters with seat belt tensioner (MOT compliant)
· nissens radiator
· oil cooler (not plumbed but mounted and all hose / fittings to plumb in supplied, just run out of time to finish)
· rallye fog light blanks
· crystal headlights
· xsara fan type washer jets and flat wipers

I really hope to get involved in the forum and attend events/trackdays wherever possible, this is all inspired by a recent trackday at Bedford with a mate where half of the clio sport forum attended. (I set out to but a 172 but loved this spec as a starter!!

So anyway the car: (crappy advert pics for now)

Initial impressions, goes pretty well, solid mounts etc make it an epic drive, incredible solidity in gear change, amazing turn in and a wonderful balance in the bends! (I bloody love it!) Top end is a little noisy post thrash and sadly in a moment of stupidity I clipped a storm drain earlier and buggered a tyre/wheel so already need to invest...

If anyone has any history on the car, tips, quick mods I should do etc let me know, I've already stripped it out and given it an oil change :-)

Cheers

Chris

Ps the brakes are dire, can anyone suggest best approach, discs look pretty well worn, but with newish pads and braided hoses I expected them to be immense but right now they're not far off dangerous!

Welcome, I'm not far from you!

Sounds obvious, but have you checked that the brakes have been thoroughly bled?

Very good spec car you've bought!

Cheers chaps!

Will definitely check the bleeding point, I did expect them to be rock hard so it was a surprise for sure!

Wheel pic as requested: (they're about to get a full refurb given I've just screwed the one :-( )
