Hi,

How much difference does changing to these wheels really make? Comments

I have had a set of C5 alloy 'steels' on for a year now. I have one as the spare as well, which also gets around needing to keep a different set of wheel bolts in the car as well as getting rid of another 4kg. I haven't timed the car against the stopwatch, but it is slightly more economical when economy is measured brim to brim. Taking close to 20kg off the weight of the car is bound to help (think how much adding a passenger affects the handling and acceleration of a car) and especially when 4/5 of that is rotating mass. The most effect would be when accelerating, the engine has to turn less rotating mass, and a lesser effect at a constant speed. The suspension will also be more compliant with the road surface as there is less unsprung mass moving up and down.

It is not a night and day difference, but it is there nonetheless. For track day lap times, others on here will be able to tell you as mine is used as a road car only.

one word of warning, I would not use them for rallying, they are not strong.

EFA. The 17" alloys on my wife's Focus are way stronger than the C5 'steelie' alloys and we had to replace 2 bent Focus wheels to get a MOT in 2013. It is but one reason why I don't drive the Rallye over winter.
