As some of the Kent guys will already know, I've been working in Germany for some time now and recently some things have changed and it looks like I'll be staying out there for the near future at least. For the most part of the time I have been there, my Rallye has been sat in my parent's garage, and I've now come to the difficult conclusion that it does not make sense for me to keep it any longer, and it really could do with being used and enjoyed by someone else. I know it's said a lot, but it really will be a shame for me to see it go.
1999 Rallye in Bianca White
Mileage: 135500
MOT: March 20th 2015 - advisories noted below
Tax: Until September
HPI clear
Tyres: At 128700 miles I replaced all the tires with Toyo T1Rs (in the correct standard size) and although I know they seem to divide opinion on this site, I really have found them to be superb. Unfortunately one had to be replaced only 3k miles later due to having a very large nail stuck in it, but this one and the others are still in very good condition and have plenty of life left.
Cambelt: In July 2011 (at around 131000 miles) it became apparent that the car was in need of a head gasket repair. This work was carried out by a family friend, using all standard Peugeot parts for which I have the receipts, and no expense was spared in this work. At the same time, the cambelt was replaced, despite the old one having only done a few thousand miles. I also took the opportunity at this time to address a leaking heater matrix and replaced that with a new unit. During the head gasket work the mechanic commented that he felt the fan in these comes on quite high, and he recommended that we fit an over-ride switch to the car to reduce the likelihood of the engine over-heating again. As a result the engine fan now operates using this switch only, and I have been very careful to ensure that the coolant temperature never exceeds the normal running temperature. For those who may be a bit unsure on this, in reality you only ever need to take care of this when idling stationary or in very slow moving traffic.
Bodywork: For a car of this age the bodywork is in very good condition, there are no major dents or scratches and it really does come up very nice after a good clean. The tires and brakes have been DIY painted some time ago, which I must admit does show now.
Modifications:
Scorpion cat-back exhaust (standard exhaust included in sale)
Ph3 crystal headlights (standard lights included)
Crystal sidelights (likewise, standards included)
Kenwood rear speakers
ITG Panel filter
Fully UK legal pressed plates
Other things to note:
- The car has been sat un-used for about 17 months in a garage, but I have recently brought it back to the road and all it required to get to and pass the MOT was a new battery (I have no receipt for this unfortunately).
- Whilst under previous ownership the car was broken into and there is some remaining damage to the lock on the driver's door. The remote fob works perfectly so I never use the manual lock anyway.
- The exhaust was not sitting 100% correctly when I first fitted it and has melted the rear bumper very slightly.
- The clutch does not slip and works as normal, however it is a rather stiff pedal (which I know is normal for these) and the bite point is quite high.
- The MOT last week noted some advisories against the brake performance. The discs were all replaced 3 years ago with Pagid discs, that have covered around 6k miles only, and the pads were not replaced as they had lots of life left. I honestly believe that this is due to surface rust as the car has been sat for so long. I have driven the car this week and it felt ok to me.
Pictures:
The driver's seat was replaced by me just before the car was taken off the road, with an almost perfect second hand seat. There is one small area where some wear is showing and I have highlighted it in the pic with a red box. I honestly think it look worse in the pic:
I'm currently back in the UK but only very briefly, so I am looking for a quick sale at £1,200.
