Hi trying to work out what rotrex pulley size I need to get peak power at 7500 rpm with my c38 charger but need to know what size the crank pulley is as my car is at work I know standard charger pulley should be 80 mm but that at 8000 rpm and I want to run mine to 7500 as the cams drop of sharp after this

Any one got the size handy ?

Marty

138mm.

A pulley of 86.25mm will give the max charger input speed of 12,000rpm, at 7500rpm engine speed.

So closest pulley is 85mm, but might be best to go 90mm for an input speed of 11,500rpm to play it safe, depends how much time you spend at the rev limit I suppose.

Actually, the calculator I'm using shows that with an 80mm pulley the charger reaches 12,000rpm at 6956rpm engine speed.

Is standard pulley size not 90mm? At an 8,000rpm limit that would only be slightly overspinning the charger at 12,266rpm.

Standard size when I spoke to rich is 80mm as mine has a 90mm fitted and is only getting 14 psi boost at 7500 when we mapped it at Wayne's last week so was down on power so looking at calcs to see if I can go 80 or 75 ?

Hmm, maybe I'm talking rubbish then.

But I've just measured a crank pulley and it is 138mm

With a 138 crank and 80 charger then it works out as 7000rpm engine for a 12076rpm charger speed?

Do that make sense?

Think I will order the 80mm pulley and try mine with the 90mm fitted without the restrictor fitted and see what boost I get and if still short then fit the 80mm without the restrictor and see where we get from that?

Had it on test yesterday at Lydden with 300 bhp and it ripped the vibra tech engine mount clean out so will need to redesign this as well but it went really well👍👍

That sounds right as its 12,000 @ 6956 as stated above.

May be worth speaking to Rich again, or Ash as his made 410bhp and he said he didn't overspin the charger.

I'd be interested in the result Smile

Mine has the standard charger pulley on it (80mm) and revs to 7950rpm. Yes

1.9 bar of boost making 454.1bhp at 7950rpm.
With yours only running 14psi that equal to 1 bar, so something's not right.

When I was running the high boost it was making 1.2 bar.

This is all a bit strange as mine is running the 80mm charger pulley and revs to 8250 and produced 446 bhp?
will be a while yet but I will have to get mine mapped again due to having the cam belt done and also a different intercooler so will be interesting to see what mine produces

It's the crank pulley that's a different size

Hi i will check my crank pulley tonight but 138mm sounds about right size but its the charger pulley that is 90mm currently and i am running the restrictor that was supplied with the kit from Rich.

When i got it mapped originally we removed the restrictor and got 18psi boost so the plan is to remove the restrictor and try it with the 90mm pulley if we don't get the 24 psi boost then change the charger pulley to the 80mm unit and i will check my inlet manifold gasket before i go back just in case its leaking from there also i have a new dump valve i will fit to ensure we are not loosing any boost from there as well.

Only thing i can think of is it could be the PT81 cams fitted to it but Wayne does not think this will make too much difference but i am in 2 minds to change them back to standard?

You need to fit standard cams Marty. Yes

The PT81's make the power even higher in the rev range than the standard ones and they are fairly high anyway. Once you do that you should have an identical spec to mine and pugheaven's, which both make 450bhp with ease including still having a restrictor fitted.

I'd say that Rich used cams at one point but then returned to standard. up to you Marty but Rich managed to hit 530bhp with standard cams don't see why you'd need the pt81s?
good luck with it hope to see you get a good result

All,

The 8-rib crank pulley is 135mm dia - not 138mm.

You need to measure the section over which the belt runs, not the shoulders on the sides.

We normally use an 80mm S/C pulley with this, and rev it to c. 8K RPM.

Regards,
Rich

Cheers Rich

Can you confirm that you do run with the restrictor provided in the kit and what should the internal dimensions of this restrictor?

Will order the 80mm pulley

Marty,

The restrictor has a standard ID of 49mm - however you can machine this out on a lathe to whatever you want to achieve the power you want.

I think on my car it's been opened up to 50mm IIRC.

Rich

As confirmed then, you need to run standard cams, standard charger pulley and use the restrictor.

No reason at all why you shouldn't see 450bhp. Wayne did two mapping runs with mine, the first came out about 440bhp and then the second one he tweaked a few bits and came out at 454bhp, which I said I was happy with. Took him about an hour in total I think. LOL

You'll get there soon mate, just sort the package out to what we're running and you'll achieve the same results. Cool

Crank pulley is the one supplied with Rich's kit so is 135 mm just got my new 80 mm pulley from TTS real quick delivery and only £72 so will put this on with the standard cams and replace the inlet manifold gasket just to be sure and see what we get!!!

Back to chasing Wayne for another mapping session he's a hard man to get hold of but i will keeping ringing as he is worth it.
