How easy is it to swap the window out of one tailgate to another?? Are they bonded in or something??

If I could swap myself would be handy as mine is smashed and dont want the rain getting in and my temporary window almost blew away last night!!!

Has anybody done this before, otherwise going to cost me 50 odd quid.

cheers

Depends - if you have a visible seal that sits proud of the glass (a Phase 2 tailgate) it might be possible.

I've got a flush bonded Phase 3 tailgate on my Rallye. I asked a glass guy as I want to remove mine as it needs painting due to a bad blow-in and the paint is going right next to the rubber (as salt gets sucked up the back when driving) so it can't be masked off. He said the glass might come out in one piece, but the rear window heater wiring connector tabs almost always get damaged. So it is pretty much a new rear window in my case.

All the tailgate glasses are boned in, it's just the ph1 and 2 have a rubber finishing trim where as the later ph3s don't. A competent screen guy should get it out ok.

Do you mean get it out with the tabs undamaged so it can be put back in with working rear window heater?

Also, I've looked on service box and it has the part no for the seal. Since Rallyes had both P2 and P3 rear hatches, how do you tell if you have the correct seal as only one part no is listed for my VIN?

It is more expensive than the glass!

Well as previously said one is just bonded and the other is with a protruding seal.

so phase 3 doesnt have a seal as such id imagine that why its a smooth finish with no seal showing.

I had it swapped over for 50 by a bloke I know, as he was swapping them a bloke on ebay wrote to me and said I could have a complete cherry tailgate for60 delivered!!! Sods law ey never mind!
