Hi guys.

After a bit of advice really. I have been caught speeding by a sneaky little mobile camera van on Sunday.

40mph limit and I was doing 70mhp. I know, silly of me and I am not looking to kick up a fuss or dispute it.
The conditions were clear with no rain and well lit coming round a big swooping corner off a dual carriageway onto a single line of traffic.

I'm away that 66mhp is minimum limit for intended Prosecution so I know I don't qualify for three points and a fine, nor a speed awareness course option.

I intend to take it on the chin, attend court and be cooperative and deal with what's coming but.. What exactly would I have coming??

I've had my licence for 7year without a single point or motoring conviction. Not sure if that makes much difference.

Any idea what I can expect? 6points and a fine? A ban? If so how long? I need my license for work, tour manager for a Dj /producer so I do a lot of driving.

Any advice much appreciated

I think you'll be looking at 6 points and a fine, how much that would be is down to the courts (at a guess £300ish). You'll have a NIP through the post within 14 days, which by now I assume you have got? Then it's just a waiting game for the paperwork for the courts to come through. Nothing more you can do now other than just ride it out.

Also yes, speedos read 10% over. So 30mph is actually 27mph etc.

The NIP I received stated I was clocked at 70mph. I have returned it and now waiting for a reply, just wish they get it dealt with nice and quick.

Well you'll have a case built against you so it will take a while. Here in Leicester it can take a couple of months until you get the court papers through the post but that's down to the current work load. Hopefully it gets sorted quick though as I'd imagine it being on your mind for a couple of months aint good

Just remember even though we've said this here, the court could pick a completely different outcome. Hopefully it works out for you.

It took nearly 6 months to get my court summons after getting caught speeding, I was just starting to think if got away with it when it landed on the doormat.

Surely there was more involved than just speeding to get 6 months in the nickShock

This. Im pretty sure you don't get that sort of punishment unless there is some sort of other contributing factor like he had hit a young child and was dragging it under his wheel whist speeding or something like that.
Speeding is generally a civil offence rather than criminal and so can not carry a prison sentence. Dangerous driving however is criminal so can so "Dave" must of done something else wrong.

Thinking about it, I think he had his ex-wife in the boot. Also, I think it was six years, not six months. Hmm

If you do 30mph over the speed limit on any road then you're liable to a driving disqualification. It all comes down to what the courts think. They'll take factors into account such as residents complaining about the amount of people speeding on a certain road. They then could make you an example of you to deter others.

To be honest when your in court, it all comes down to your behaviour. If you walk in a right cocky bas**rd pretending like you don't care, they will throw the book at you.
If you walk in with your tail between your legs and are (or at least act) genuinely sorry and can point out its not something you normally do, you will walk away with a fine, points but still a licence.
Also, if you have a need for a licence, thats a factor they have to take into account. I know of a guy who got off of a ban after 12 points because he was supporting his wife and 2 month old kid and was a mechanic so would of lost his job with no licence. Still got a nice big fine though!

sorry to hear they got ya having fun in the rallye Sad

Plead the im sorry case im a twat have learned my lesson etc and also make it clear that you licence is your income and needed to live and its rare for them to ban you.

Ive heard of people caught doing over a tonne which is usually instant ban and being let off with a hefty fine nd just enough points to keep your license because of their job.

Ive learned the hard way about speeding daytime, got caught similarly to yourself in tunbridge wells some years ago, fortunately i had just braked and they clocked me at 45mph in a 30 when i had been doing more....

Even now im very careful where and when i put my foot down. Theres a time and a place.

I got caught on the motorway doing nearly 120, they was still behind me when I entered the temporary 50 limit doing 110 LOL.
I Got a solicitor which cost me £150 cash and I ended up with 9 points and a fine just shy of £500.
If it hadn't been for the solicitor I'm pretty sure I wouldn't of been driving again for a good while,
solicitor did a plea bargain, with the magistrates, if I went guilty they would drop the charges from exceeding 100mph in a 50 limit and exceeding 100 in a 70 down to exceeding 50 and exceeding 70.
