Hi guys-just like to say having been on the forum for a week you've all got a smashing thing going on here!
I'm new to the gti6 scene but have had dturbos and hdis for a few years now.

My problem with the new motor as the title suggests though isnt too good! It took a wee gulp of water the other day and after white smoking like a train for 10 mins or so which did clear it had developed a distinct ticking sound which seems to be coming from the r/h side of the engine looking from the gearbox end to the front of the engine.
From doing a quick search through the forum it seems that bent valves tend to be a big problem-would I be right in thinking this is what to expect to hear from the garage?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Unfortunately, I agree if it's taken a gulp of water. Sad

Oh dear thats not the best. Looks like I should be looking out for a replacement engine then-assuming the rebuild cost will be hefty! Out of curiousity does anybody know if a 2 litre 16valve engine out a 306 soft top is the same as the gti engine? I see somebody on ebay has one for sale close to me.

No thats the XSi engine your thinking of. the engine you want has to have RS stamped on the gear box end of the head and RFS on the back of the block

Another easy way to tell is the XSI engine has black plastic cam covers where as the GTi one has metal covers with '16V' stamped in the top of the front one.

I've had experience of taking on water as well. 2 bent roads at least with me but not removd the head so assuming the velves are f**ked as well!! Re building with new parts would b expensive with new parts so i'd look for another engine

Out of curiosity would you be interested in getting rid ofmyour knackred engine if you find a new one?

Got a load of bits lying around which would probably make an engine but havent got a block!!

your old engine will be scrap, but if you've never stripped one before, it be well worth the learning curve to take a look

Just fitting the new pistons and rods would be more work than an engine change...
