* When changing the head gasket does the head bolts need replacing aswel?
* Has anyone used either Steel seal or K-Seal if so does it actually work and would this be worth doing?
any help would be appreciated
thanks in advance

Could be the heat exchanger rather than the head gasket, easier and cheaper to sort out so worth checking that before assuming its the head gasket.Yes the head bolts will need replacing. I've never used any of that seal stuff, and would never try it in any of my engines, i got a second hand engine which had had it used and it was just full of gunk blocking the waterways. Somewhere in my project thread i think i mention how i checked my heat exchanger as it turned out mine was leaking oil into the coolant. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

On mine i removed the two coolant hoses and connected them together to bypass the heat exchanger, then ran some new hose from the two hose tails on the heat exchanger into an empty bottle then ran the engine, after a few minutes if it's the heat exchanger the bottle will start to collect the engine oil.Obviously if your engine has no oil in it at the minute you'll need to put some in so you don't run it dry and destroy it. With the heat exchanger bypassed like the above method you should be able to tell whether it's the heat exchanger or head gasket, it took mine quite a while for oil to start to appear in the bottle. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |
