Bit random this one but how easy is it to fit other pug steering wheels into the 306? I assume the 206/307 is an easy swap, what about newer models?

106 gti is same one iirc e.g leather. From Avis days 206 is a horrible steering wheel 307 sure had more wires in it.

Newer models would have fancier electrics that may not fire airbags if looking to use on road etc.

The decent 206 steering wheels have a dual stage air bag. I don't know if you will get away with just plugging in the original air bag plug into the primary airbag but other than that, the steering wheel fits providing you make the cowling hole slightly bigger.

I quite like the feel of the 208 wheel, although it's got so many buttons on it I'm not sure it'd be compatible.

As I say, the 208 wheel has fantastic feel to it, my Mrs owns one and it's the only part of the car that I like. LOL

It's quite a small wheel in comparison to ours, but I feel the hand grips and positioning are much better and more ergonomically designed.

I was going to send my standard one off to this guy to have hand grips added and a retrim. He can do basically anything at a very reasonable cost.

407 one is quite nice as well although id like something a bit smaller like that rcz one.

Well now that I've seen the 407 one, I'm going to go down to the scrappy and try one in a 306 (they always seem to have loads of Peugeots down there LOL ) and if that fits, i might do that as a cheaper option but if not, ill get mine retrimmed before summer as the leather has pretty much had it.

I've had a steering wheel retrim on the list for a while, mainly to get rid of the plasticky feel of the standard GTI-6 leather wheel I put in the Rallye, which is better than the rubber base-spec original. I had the idea about thumb grips too, as I like the idea of an OEM+ spec, the ebay German guy is the first retrimmer I've seen who says he will add them.

I'm tempted to give him a go.

Yeah i did a bit of research into him (as the price he charges is very cheap in comparison to most in the UK) and I've read good things about him. He can do all sorts. Even change it to a flat bottom wheel if you like.

I was going to get mine in Napa leather top and bottom, perforated leather both sides, thumb grips and the stitching in peugeot sport colours then i realised, people will just say why have you got the rallye colours in your GTI lol

I just really like the look of it, the ones in the Rallye's and 6's just look like something out of a van if I'm honest, don't get me wrong they're comfy to drive with they just dont look too good.

How about this guys?

Scouring the interwebs, a lot of the BMW M3 and M5 boys have had steering wheels done by Jack at "Royal Steering Wheels". A few e-mails later and I sent Jack a spare leather Gti 180 wheel down, I chose black alcantara with silver stitching, and the wheel ever so slightly thicker than OE, but not so that it's noticeable.

Took about two weeks, the wheel arrived back. I'm SO impressed with it, looks factory, the finish is superb!

Fitted it last night, took it for a drive and it feels so much better, really changes the way the car feels, cant believe the transformation.

Some pics for you detail hungry people....
