Rechromed the headlight inserts.

Before:

During, all the colouring on it is long-gone:

After (headlamps are in shadow so can't see reflectiveness but it is definitely much better):

I bought a Scorpion backbox from a nice man called Tony on saturday morning as my standard one is getting a bit rusty so I've quarantined that somewhere dry for now until I decide what to do with it:

Did a bit of polishing to it, and fitting it gave me the chance to take the heatshield off and swap it for the one I tidied up a fair while ago:

This has made a nice difference, but there's still lots under there that I would like to tidy up someday. It is currently being driven daily though.

It doesn't sit at quite the right angle because the exhaust hangars I had to hand were a bit awkward, this will be rectified though:

Another thing that is annoying me is that the GTi badge is pretty faded, so I hope to sort that soon too. I also made a hesitation from cold a bit better by changing the TPS for a spare.
I also tried to change the CTS for a nearly new one I had from Germany which snapped in half when it was only being finger-tightened! Either it was crap or I'm the Hulk! Luckily it was still sealing. I managed to superglue the sensor together and then gently wind it back out and put the old one back in for now, narrowly avoiding not having a car to go to work! It hesitates a lot less but now only just slightly when cold so I think I'll pick up a new CTS as well.

This got a straight-through centre section today, with new earth straps and clamps all along.

It is still pretty loud at motorway speeds, but at all other times it is ear porn and sounds amazing.

Yep, good effort.
Shame the old owner of this one wasn't very good at getting the history to you.

I bought a gopro today so will hopefully be able to get some videos soon.

Still not a great deal happening, been driving it to work and back every day and racking up the miles, 60500ish now. Sad Off to look at a new daily this weekend so hopefully this will become a driveway queen and only be used for weekend blasts.

Also bought parts for servicing it and recieved some shinies today, TD pro race 3s 15" in white. Crap garage pic:

Little blast to test the go pro. Quality sucks, need to mess with the editor to stop it compressing it so badly. Drove pretty slowly as the mount was new and I didn't want to lose a brand new go pro!

On the plus side it sounds great. Big grin

Car got an oil change, filter and new spark plugs today, plus swapped for spare coilpacks to hopefully solve hesitance from cold.

I do have a standard, genuine backbox but I don't really want to sell right now.
I do have a genuine centre section I don't want to keep though.

Yeah always the way really.
If you've his phone number or email I wouldn't mind having a go at contacting him though.

I have built up a bit of history in my year and a bit of ownership though:

Test fitted wheels today. Noticed a lot of play in the front left brake disc and alarmingly both the retaining screws were barely on, and as soon as I touched one the head just dropped off.

I'll be getting new screws for both sides just to be sure, although the right hand side doesn't have any play in it.

Edit: All sorted.

Anyway, the wheels look good, fit perfectly and sit very nicely spaced out by 20mm. I just need to get my tyres swapped over onto them and get four locking nuts and then they can stay fitted.

Retaining screws on the discs are only there just to help hold the disc in place with wheels off. Its the wheel nuts which actually secure the disc. So need to be too alarmed! May as well replace if you can though.

And nice motor by the way Thumbs up

Yeah I know.
I thought I checked and the disc still had play with the wheel on but clearly I did that before tightening and then had a panic. Laugh my ass off

I will replace soon. Might just get decent pads at the same time the ones in there are cheap and squealy.

Thanks!

This has been a second car since some time in January now.

Not much has been happening, mostly due to work and crap weather, but I've serviced it using genuine oil, filter, NGK plugs and swapped coil packs for a known good set which go rid of cold hesitation and made it run generally better everywhere.

Needs a blow sorting from the cat outlet pipe which is making it sound very loud and farty.

Other than that I've been gradually accumulating shinies:

I need to get tyres swapped onto the new wheels but I can't find anywhere near me that charges less than 50 quid sadly.

Yeah I had to move for work. I'm down in Oxford every few weekends though!

Have you got the kit for swapping tyres?
Happy to provide beer tokens to someone for their trouble just think 50 quid is excessive!

Got lots of good bits sitting around and more coming in the post for this, haven't done much to it for absolutely ages due to work and other things.

It got a sticker on the front grille and I got hold of some Ph.1 Headlamp protectors for it, not sure on them looks-wise really but I am an absolute geek about rare optional extras and upgrades.
Currently it desperately needs a wash and it looks like this:

Getting ready to swap on a rebuilt rear beam that's been lowered 30mm.

I have, however, in a moment of brilliance forgotten to undo the brake disc retaining screw on one side before removing the calipers. Can anyone think of a good trick for stopping the rotation of the disc without putting the caliper back on and having someone brake?

Also, a garage or a previous owner has been a total moron and jacked this up in completely the wrong place as has been done to so many of these cars. The other side has also been pushed in a bit but hasn't rusted. This one doesn't look great though:
