Have an interesting intermittent electrical glitch. From time to time (could be every few minutes, could be I drive the car without it happening), the instruments glitch. Speedo, tacho appear to reset themselves (judder to 0, then bounce to ~110mph/6250rpm), fuel and oil temp go to max, and the odomoeter/trip go to all segments lit. Temperature gauge, headlights on warning appear unaffected. After a second or two showing those values, it will go back to behaving normally. Backlights (cluster lighting) don't dim either.

I've had the fuses out and given things a good dose of contact cleaner, so I'm guessing the next likely candidate is an earth - anyone know where they are and whether there's one common earth that would show those symptoms. Or could it be a slightly dodgy 12v feed?

Doesn't seem to be related to bumps in the road or any other common factor I can identify.

Engine runs fine throughout, so I'm treating it as an annoyance, but would be nice to sort it.

thanks,

Jon

I did have a similar problem caused by a water leak meaning hat the instrument panel was earthing itself? any sign of water leaking behind the instrument panel?

One of the main earths inside the car is behind the carpet in the driver's footwell.

Give it a clean/tighten and see how you get on from there. Smile

Thanks stan. Hope it's that, but I'm waiting for the rain to stop before I can have a poke!

Hmmm, been out again in the dry today and not so much as a flicker, so it looks like it might be a water leak behind the panel. Ho hum.

Interesting. Could also tie in with the radio reception not being amazing (ie corroded wiring if there's a water leak). Will have a poke later in the hols Thumbs up
