Hi

I am just building my GTI6 SHB motor and have upgraded to a C38 charger which i have a fitting kit that includes a 8 rib pulley set, i have just tried my dry sump belt on and it catching the bottom pulley as its wider than the 6 rib so my question is could i run a C38 on a 6 rib belt as its only for short races and can be changed at the first sign of any wear?

Marty it will slip the reason for the 8 rib belt is the 6 belt would slip under the loads applied I'm sure that Rich di have a prototype 6 rib belt kit? maybe he still has this? If you ask Rich W I'm sure he can explain? maybe you could modify the dry sump pulley and space it out more?

Yes, you can use a 6-rib belt but as stated it may slip under extreme load. This was the main reason for upgrading all the aux components to accept 8-rib and make the most of the C38 charger. Smile

Hi

Thanks for the comment although it should be as i have around £4k in it now just want to see it hit the 451 bhp with loads of torque to see if it will spin the Avon slicks...

just need to work out the 8 rib alternator pulley not lining up and source a belt for it

Same as mine then.

I had a new Goodyear one to fit when I installed my system. Perfect tension with no need for shimming the pump. I stuck the car into a gravel trap and literally stones were everywhere including one into the sump belt which has a nice guard. This caused a small rip in the belt. Still worked and drove pulleys just obviously not safe to use.
I then went back to my local supplier and ordered 2 belts (same place I got my Goodyear one from) they ordered a couple in and next day picked them up and got them for a tenner. They wernt goodyear ones though and I fitted one and it's slacker than the Goodyear and isn't safe to use. The supplier didn't really see my point as normally you'd obviously tweak the tensioner/idler but I tried to explain that I'd have to shim the pump away which isn't something I want to do if I can help it.
So I'm going to order another one online and hope its a touch shorter.
