Hi there is there a gearbox people are using for circuit racing/trackdays, without using an aftermarket massively expensive one. If so what and does it need any modifications, as usual thanks for any help |

there was a thread over on 205 drivers about this the other day, people mentioning the vts box and 205 1.6/1.9 boxes. don't know what the best one ended up being. i'm running a 1.6 205 be3 box on my gti6 engine (mainly because i had it already) but that's meant to be good but sacrificies top end speed ________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |

What exactly are you after and what have you currently got?A good cheap shorter box would be a 205 1900 gti box with a 4.4 f/d from a mi16/vts box. Off the shelf there's the 1600gti box, not massively dissimilar to a vts box, the large jump between first and second can be irritating but you'd not notice it on a circuit car. I've recently bought a box off peterallye, believe it's an AB special with something like 1900 1st and second then gti6 3rd,4th and 5th with a 4.4 f/d. If find this very good but it's on an 8v, tops out about 100mph! If you have a search on 205drivers you'll find lots of info including spreadsheets of various hybrids etc. Al ________________________________________ www.bridgecraftmotorsport.co.uk |

Depends on what power your running too IMO.I once fitted a 1.6 box to my 205 with 200hp about 4 years ago and hated it, found myself having to change gear more than i wanted on a circuit as mainly 60-130 mph circuit depending I now run a mi16 box which is similar to a VTS box which I find my 230hp engine well suited as the top end of the box suits I think a GTI6 box is a little long for a standard gti6 track car as it seems to overcome the power the gti6 has to offer in the higher gears but on my brothers 306 rallye which has a 225hp N/A engine the gti6 box is a good match as it has enough power to use the box to its full potential. ________________________________________ 230 hp 2.1 16v XU 205 rallye on jenveys Project thread here309 3dr K20 Type R |

If your running a standard engine and want it to feel a bit quicker out on track, pick up out of the tighter stuff a little better and still retain a decent top end speed, especially if your driving it on the road too then go for a VTS or Mi16 box________________________________________ 230 hp 2.1 16v XU 205 rallye on jenveys Project thread here309 3dr K20 Type R |
