For MOT's I used to use
HMC never had any issue and nothing that wasn't much of a surprise when they did MOT regarding failure/advisory items. Never got a quote to rectify stuff as I either had bits at home or was tied in with visiting mates where I know of other garages that could fix/replace bits I couldn't be arsed to and then take back for the retest.
However for impartial but "potential is it worth it factor" use the Council MOT service as they have no vested interest in inventing problems as they don't do repairs.
There are a number of garages around Ashley Down that former members have recommended and a supposed Peugeot specialist in Elm Road. He swapped an exhaust over for a tenner when mine failed at aforementioned garage as I had a spare in the shed but wanted to get swapped ASAP and retested to a pass.
Problems with cars this age is some people can't be arsed to work on them as return isn't great so could overprice to just get rid of you while they change a Focus headlight for £40.
