I recently sold a Vw bora to my business partner, and as he didn't have room on his drive for both the bora and the rallye, he GAVE me the rallye to do with as I please.
Now he had had this car a very long time, 10 years. And bought it with some inheritance for rom his late step father.
What he bought all those years ago it was a fast, mint example. 10 years later, lack of enthusiasm and neglect have taken their toll.
My aim is get it back to the standard it was when he bought it into work for the first time back in 2003.

Now, I recall 2 minor accidents in this car, one was when the gate to the yard blew into the rear quarter, leaving a nick in the swage line, the second being our then boss, reversing into the drivers side wing.
Both were repaired, but to a very poor standard, with micro blisters in the paint on the rear quarter, and lack of undercoat and only a dusting of paint on the new wing, it needed a professional job to bring it back to its former glory. Also while being parked on his drive, his children had kicked the family car door into most of the passenger side panels, there must be 30 tiny dings all down one side.
Luckily enough I run a club garage, and we have all the toys including a spray booth.
So, after taking pics of where the stickers go...

Note the dings..

Mint boot floor..

And the bay needs a good clean..

Then the stickers came off, as did most of the other parts, got to say, 306's are the easiest cars to strip.

And tonight, more prep work.

That's where we are so far. Parts list is increasing as I want it just so, but on the bright side, I've only spent, including the car, £55Big grin
Parts list..

Ooh looking forward to seeing the outcome of this! You don't quite realise how much they fade over the years until you repaint them and see how bright they are.

I removed the decals ( need to add those to the list) from between the windows, the paint underneath was amazingly bright.

Mate owns a wrapping/sign writing company, I'll get him to put some on, and fit the new decals.

I found this site after putting a pic of the rallye on Instagram, and one of my followers mentioned that he had seen it on here. He must of seen yours, and thought it was the one I had.

To be honest Si, I have seen a few other TRE's about, probably all came from the same area or dealer at the time. Have you got your new 'Rallye' decals yet? Only reason I ask is I have a new set made by a guy on here and they are 98% accurate - be careful of cheap ones from fleabay! they're pants. In fact, if you go to the 'EXTERIOR' section on here, 7th post down 'cheap Rallye stickers', have a look through and you'll find Rick_Rallye, he's the guy that does them, think a full set posted was £45 !

Love the project!

As the old washer jets will inevitably be blocked and crap due to the car sitting for ages, when you put it back together after paint, I strongly suggest you put a pair of these on.

The Xsara jets are massively better than the 306 ones, as virtually anyone who has fitted them will tell you!

I got some of these the other week. First day I fitted them they were ok. They spray quite low on the window though even when sat still. After 2 days one of them started lacking in mist as it had started getting blocked already..... Though I suppose thats the same on most jets now days.

I now have a set of wiper blades with jets on instead following the fitmet of a smoothed bonnet.

Strange that they blocked up so quickly, got them on the recommendation of someone else on here to replace my std. blocked ones and they worked amazingly. I think I was running a ph.3 bonnet which is slightly more curved upwards which might have aimed them a bit better though.

How well do the 405 spraybar wipers work? Considering a set for the Ph.1 if the mist jets don't aim properly on it.

Could do with a decent rear spoiler, and drivers side skirt. And any of the parts on the list above.

They mainly rust due to idiots jacking them in the wrong place damaging the paint and allowing rust to start. My sills were really good underneath the skirts except for one dented area that had rusted. The seams just needed a wire brush and repaint.

If you look at my project thread you can see how they were re-attached with riv-nuts to enable easy removal for future cleaning.

Great work, will follow this thread.

Get the glass out before you get it painted ? It will be worth it in the end ! If you paint it with the windscreen and rear screen in it will not be right ? And that goes for the headlights, bumpers, wings , doors and engine !

If you cut corners now you will regret it

I can't help the odd rant about it either - ham-fisted idiots ruining my car etc.
