My phase 2 has developed a fault which i cannot get my head around, electrical problem solving really isn't my thing!
The problem first started about 2 months ago, only when the car was cold the starter/solenoid would not engage, if i tapped the starter the engine would fire up no problem, seeing as it would only go with a prod a naturally came to the conclusion that the starter was knackered i replaced it with a known good spare which cured (or so i thought) the problem although the engine was very slow to turn over, i might like to add that the battery is good and all earths have recently been cleaned as i was chasing a random misfire. I have since fitted another starter and now when i turn the key nothing happens, i checked for a feed to the solenoid whilst trying to crank over and nothing. At this stage i thought maybe the wiring harness was at fault as it does look a bit ropey in places and when i think back to when i was having to hit the starter - maybe i was just disturbing the surrounding wiring and causing a broken wire to make contact, now i have done a continuety test on the harness wires, solenoid wire seems to be ok but now there is no power getting to the coil wiring, swapped relay and still nothing. I have ran a wire directly from the battery to the starter solenoid whilst the ignition is on which now sees the engine turn over but won't fire, there is fuel but no spark.
It has been suggested that the ECU may have somehow immobilised itself but surely if this was the case then there would be no fuel.
My conclusion is that the wiring harness may be faulty, has anyone any thoughts?? Seems very strange how before the engine would start and now it cranks over but no spark

If you've checked all the looms etc I'd try a known good crank sensor first. Most common cause of non start on a lot of peugeot engines.

The immobiliser cuts the spark, not the fuel on these engines, just for clarity.

I thought it cut both but I can't remember to be honest as mine always starts first time Big grin

But if Stan is correct then I'd try an unlocked ecu or swap the immob ecu key chip and ecu from someone else's 6 and see if it fires.

If there is no power flowing to the solenoid coil on the starter, then the ignition barrel obviously isn't supplying the power upon being switched to position 3 (cranking). If the barrel isn't working properly, then this will also probably be the cause of it not having a spark when you put 12v to the solenoid coil manually.

Small update on this, Today i paid for an auto electrician to diagnose the problem, he told me that the ecu is locked out and he wants to recode the key, also he said that i should change the wiring loom as alot of the wires have a high resistance. Ignition switch seems to be fine but thanks for the suggestions.
How would an ecu randomly lock itself out?

I have heard of ECUs locking out randomly before on these cars. Yes Sad
