I've had my box strengthened by Miles a few years ago now, but taking that to one side I really do think that it's very much related to how much effort you put in to changing gear nicely in a fast, but sympathetic way that determines how long they will last. Yes

to be fIr that's my understanding but I didn't buy 400bhp to drive slow and for the sake of a box change I'll take my chances. hopefully the uprated gearkits will solve this issue.
it literally is as Ash said shock loading. the gears are strong enough but if you hammer into third enough it just brings out weakness.

LOL

Quite the opposite actually, plenty of track days, trips to Europe, Pugfest etc in that time. Yes

Although, these days it is stored and not used.

Stan I've seen you're car a few times at lynx is a very nice example mate. Lynx did tell me that I'd have to be more sympathetic. I find it very easy to get carried away though. Just should have changed the gearbox when I did a clutch change 2 weeks ago. Doh

I changed gear normally and steady in mine, it went into gear, I let the clutch up steadily , then when I planted the gas after clutch went up it suddenly revved up as if clutch had gone, it was a really smooth change and clutch engagement when it went

I had no plans in keeping the box and did about 200 miles locally with no third gear , in that distance only once did I hear it pick a bit of metal up and make a noise, if u work local u may be ok to use it till the weekend when u get chance to swap it over.

just typical the week before I had 3 useable cars then this happens and I've only got one useable. may be buying a sensible daily quicker than I thought as I may need it for when I break it next. LOL
though to be fair I've tried to be gentle with this car though I have taken it almost to the rev limiter in every gear including 6th as well Superman Whistle
