Hi guys

Got a problem with my 306 DT (not a GTI-6 I know) but it isn't specific to a DT.

For the last week or so, there has been a 'massive' pull to the left.

I have to force the steering wheel to be driving central, and as soon as I let go, it pulls to the left hard. I don't just mean a little bit, I'm talking about it literally veering off to the left.

I took it to a garage local to where I work as they also did the MOT for me about a month and a half ago, which included a nearside track rod end being replaced.

All they could suggest after inspection was that the P-Bushes are a bit worn, so both wishbones would need replacing.

I'm not so sure it is P-Bushes. There was no advisory on MOT for either of these bushes a month and a half ago, and I have had P-Bushes perish on a number of 306s before and it has never pulled like this. You get the odd knock over bumps and wandering, but not the steering pulling really hard to the left.

I also don't think it is tracking. It needs to be done anyway since the track rod end was replaced not so long ago, but I would rather sort any other parts out first and then get the tracking done. Plus, it has only been the last week or so it has done this, never pulled before.

There is quite a long left hand turn on my way to work each morning which leads onto a motorway, it is one of my favourite corners as it can be taken fairly briskly, but if I do that now then there is a noticable grumbly/rumbling noise when turning left quickly.

Any suggestions what my problem is? I was considering taking it to another garage to see what they think.

I was thinking possibly a wheel bearing (not sure if a failed bearing would pull) or a shagged driveshaft?

No doubt the wishbones could do with replacing and I will get this done, I just don't think this is the route cause of my problem.

Cheers for any help.

Did it start doing it immediately after the track rid end was replaced?
if so there's the culprit, can't belive a garage would change that but not align it after.

No it was fine after the track rod end was replaced.

They didn't align it as they don't do tracking services at their garage, they recommended I take it somewhere that does.

Also worth a mention that the steering can vibrate at speed when I'm on the motorway.

Cheers

Did it happen suddenly or develop over time?

I don't want to sound patronising but have you checked the obvious ie tyre pressures?

Also check the hole where the ball joint sits in the bottom of the hub, got a nasty habit of going oval.

Nothing about wheel balancing has been mentioned for when on the motorway? That could cause vibrations through steering.
But something sounds loose.

You'll need to throw money at the car. Not on parts. Just stand near your car and throw loose change at it, I find this increases performance for a short period of time
