Hi Guys, Just had my recently converted 306 V6 weighed.

Thought you would be interested to know the REAL FACTUAL weigh difference.

3.0L V6 5 speed = 1120 kg
2.0L Gti6 6 speed = 1060 kg

That's EXACTLY 60kg heavier with the V6 engine and box. No

Twice what some of you suggest. Thumbs down

Don't get me wrong, now I've got everything working properly I LOVE IT ! Awesome noise, smooth & powerful acceleration in any gear from tickover. Big grin

Just wanted to correct the record should you be looking to do the same conversion.

For info the only differences are:
Engine + ECU
Gearbox + Clutch
Inlet and Exhaust manifold(s)
V6 Radiator
Driveshafts
Modified subframe
Modified slam panel

Car was full with fuel, weighed on the same electronic scales accurate to +/-5kg.
Nothing additional inside the car other than a heater matrix (0.65kg).
Full cage, All glass, Heavy OMP TRS seats and Twin fans installed on both weigh in's
Driver not included !

Off to Rockingham this Saturday to see what she is really capable of. Yes

Paul

Interesting figures, I have half a chance of being around 1000kg then!

For reference, I assume there is no real difference in weight between the D8 and 9?

Nice to know. 60kg doesnt make much difference to be honest. Bit of weight saving here and there and your laughing.

Vts springs on a v6 205 are said to make the car a perfect height, however iv tried vts springs with my 205 6 engine and its like the car is on stilts. So this just shows you how much heavier those engines are in comparison and from what iv read people seem to think they are about the same weight which isnt true, v6 is definitely a boat anchor LOL

That was my thoughts Eddy, like carrying around a very small person.

Beez Neez, I think the engines are similar in weight due to ali block V6, however its the huge V6 gearbox and other bits that make the difference.

Before you say the 306 has a big 6 speed. A 6 speed in a 205/309 rubs the wheel as we all know. This also happens on the V6 box, so its a chunky (stronger Razz ) 5 speed gearbox.

Mine has the lightweight vts 5 speed box, I understand the gearbox weight is the main part of the weight. IMO v6 suits the 309 compared to the 205, just a pity they have a bit too much weight in front of the struts. Surely if gearbox is heavier than the engine then one side would be lower in height using standard springs.

Mine sits level. I run skip brown Bilstein dampers and some volcane ZX springs. I want it to be fairly comfy. In this photo the rear is yet to be raised.

Likewise the diifference of a vts box to a gti6 box - there is not that much difference. A 1.6 / 1.9 205 box still beats them all Smile

Agree with this. Be interested to hear how you get on at Rockingham, I'd think that would definitely be a track where you'll gain a big advantage from the power/torque. Also glad to hear you've got it all sorted.

From having mine I'll still stand by the fact that get the suspension right and I don't think you'd hardly notice a difference handling wise.

No good on track I'm afraid, they get far too HOT, even in the 406 they are bad with a huge Rad, Most I ever did without a oil cooler was 8 minutes

As said the box is allot heavier, BE's are dead easy to lift, the ML thou christ

It is but not how people (usually that havnt driven one) would make you believe and mine was on completely standard suspension.

Miles does have a good point but again I'm sure It's something that could be addressed on a dedicated track car

I do plan on going down the route of more power, so at some point I'm going to have a bigger/deeper radiator made, with mounts for 1x big fan and a oil cooler.
