Hi guys,
I’m looking to rebuild a cylinder head I’ve got to put on my car when I change the head gasket. The head came off an engine which had a snapped con rod and consequently 4 of the valves are no good anymore. I’m fairly confident I can do most the rebuild but things like replacing he guides for the bent valves I haven’t got the tools for… would it cost a lot to get done and does anyone know anybody in Suffolk they can recommend to do it?
Thanks for any help,
Will

You can buy the tools relatively cheaply enough, You'll need a valve spring compressor:
VSC
That will get the valves out safely.
It's been a while since i've done it but you'll also need a grinding kit:
VGK
The above will help you reseat the new valves into the head.
I'm sure the other guys can advise on what else needs to be done. but the above are stuff you WILL need.

Thanks for you help Rich. I've got a valve spring compressor. I figured that if the valves have had it new guides would be needed too... I think i'm right in saying they have to be pressed in which is something i'd need someone to do for me?

Any idea how much it would cost Stan? Is it on of those things where you're just better off getting a different head?

Depends on how many guides need changing, but probably around £5 a guide ish, I'm guessing here though.

I live near Woodbridge, so not far from Hollesley. Never heard of those guys so thanks for the heads up! Doesn't sound like it will be as expensive as i feared.... a phrase I've rarely used when refering to my 6
