Hi all, bit of a strange one with my HDi last few days.
Car completely cut out last week as if no diesel.
Had to call out RAC to rescue me. He checked over and suggested that the fuel pump was faulty and would need to be replaced. I did this and all seemed fine. Did about 15 miles to test and no issues. Used brand new VDO fuel pump from euro car supplies.
Few days later, been out in car and again, completely cut out as if ran out of diesel. This time in e middle of busy main road at rush hour. I manage to push car to road side and a few minutes later it started all ok.
Set off to drive it but couldn't get any power as if fuel supply blocked or not working correctly. Rac came out to me again, but car started all ok. He followed me home and I left the car running. He couldn't suggest anything other than to get some follow up investigation work done at a garage.
Less than minute after him pulling away the car cut out again!!!! This happened when I closed the drivers door; It cute out straight away.
This suggests to me a loose connection somewhere.
As I write this the car has been idling for ten minutes - any help or suggestions out there please?

As an update, the engine is now cutting out regularly (after 2-3 mins of idling).
It will re start but then continues to cut out - I am baffled on this one. Any help out there is very much appreciated!

Check all Earthing points in the engine bay and the battery terminals for corrosion/tightness. Yes

Hi there, have checked all connectors and all seems OK. One thing I have noticed is that there is a warning light on show ever since I changes fuel pump. See attached PIC for details. Just took her out roi d the block and cut out twice in ten mins.

Interested to see what this is, any updates?

Ive just started driving a Xsara VTR HDI 110 today. Its remapped, with a decat and EGR deleted. Goes ok but under full throttle it cut out and had no power. Afterwards the engine management light is highlighted.

It started again after I left it off for a few minutes but its really not safe as it did it whilst I was overtaking a truck and almost left me stranded mid-overtake.

Maybe a dodgy remap, but it was done by a reputable guy from the pug/citroen community.
Was a send the file via email, he edited it, sent it back jobby

Car drives fine otherwise, just does this under load occasionally.

could be the high pressure pump. the one in the tank is the LP one and the HP one is belt driven in the bay. have you checked flow rate etc?

I bought it off my brother, he had it cut out once on him too. I'm sure he mentioned that someone off the xsara forums also suggested this, 'high pressure pump' sounds familiar to me, like I heard him say it could be that!

My brother has the lexia diagnostics software and it did throw up a code afterwards.

I think he has the photo of the code on his phone - just waiting for him to send it to me.

How do I check the flow rate rikky?

Also, is it an easy to DIY fix it myself and cheap? Or difficult and pricey?

Thanks

Quick google brought up this

P1112 on a PSA EDC15C2 is:- "Diesel high pressure monitoring function; pressure lower than the minimum pressure."

Cheers, from what I've read so far, its either fuel rail pressure/pressure sensor, or a faulty injector that doesn't want to open/sticks and so it causes a rise in pressure......which leads to it shutting down the system down to avoid damaging the engine (can also produce P1112)

And my brother did mention something also about injectors being noisy on occasion, not sure how these things should sound on tick over but this one is quite loud on idle

Its just finding out the exact cause Hmm

Hmm well turbo spools up fine, and doesn't smoke much!

HP pump would be unlucky as from what ive read its quite a pricey job.

Im betting its injector related/fuel rail sensor.

Drove lovely today, no issues, and the engine management light has gone out, although started the day with it on.......

Done 166miles in two days from a full tank and needle is just sitting above 3/4 full Smoke

I have a 1.6HDi which does exactly the same thing. Yes

Hi all - one week on and have done the following:
Re-fitted LP (tank) fuel pump.
Changed fuel filter in order to bleed fuel system.
Car still cutting out after few hundred yards. Part of dashboard display (odometer) intermittently displayed on dash.
Am clueless at this moment in time.

try a known working HP pump but odometer randomness is usually battery or earth problem
