Thinking its the ecu rather than the crank sensor, the battery has been in and out recently, prior to which it started without a problem. How do I test crank sensor though?

A duff crank sensor will cause your symptoms as well. Yes

Fixed- Tested the crank sensor, no continuity. Fitted a replacement today and it started first turn of the key. Thumbs up
