forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question but im sure i have read somewhere that the crank from a hdi engine is a steel one

im in the process of deciding whether or not to build a standard or all singing all dancing engine for my gti6 and was thinking if the steel crank from a hdi engine is the same, it will be a good place to start

It has a longer stroke but will fit just to either change pistons or rods
