a guy came to our garage last week for us to fit tyres to his golf 9 inch wide steels, now i have always fancied a set of white steels for my 6 but once the tyres are on they look to narrow, after seeing the quality of the golf wheels and they were very easy to balance i started thinking about how good a set of 8inch 306 steels would look! Anyone here ever done it?

Yeah bit too deep those ones I think. Bit less dish and a bit less tyre stretch and they would look great.

Bit less arch too. Rolled/flared arches is one thing but that looks Sh*te!

Use late pug steels, they are far far lighter than the older mid 90's ones, not far off the weight of the early C5 Pressed Alloy wheel.

Also bonus of there being standard 16"s though most are deeper offset, that could be easily corrected by shifting the centres or adding a band in an appropriate place.

One thing I would say however, is please don't do the "dub" thing of utter gash stretch poke etc, a nice square sidewall filling the arch would be reet good lad!

Also don't forget that with a FWD chassis, the width goes at the front, not the rear, so stick the 7.5's on the back and 8.5's on the front.

Having wider front actually looks fine IMO as long as the rears are spaced out to suit.

sadly, you are wrong, and as a previous blue clio owner, your opinion is devoid of substance

I thought of banded steels as well, as I like the steelie look but just a bit more dish would be good. I was only thinking a subtle change about 7" or 7.5" at most - not stupid looking cartoon/broken camber/mega-stretch tyred looking car which has seriously compromised handling. Then I decided not to bother as the car is sweet as it is at present and I've spent enough for now.

given that a few on here have used 8"s without having them sticking out that far, I'd say you got the offset rather wrong LOL
