Well what I started out with is a 306 meridian estate on a 2001 in sherwood green, car has had two owners and the guy i got it from was in his mid 60s so it had a few scratches and even a tow bar, i suppose for the small tip trailer most old folk have? Car had full history and a very modest mileage of 84,000 which was a bonus. I managed to buy the car for quite a decent price, been looking for one for some time (most have either high mileage or just really rough) this ticked the boxes for an ideal car to use.
How it was when I bought it, a good base but lacking the cleanliness of my own cars-
Although the standard wheels were in great shape and looked good I felt doing the change the gti6 wheels would suit it more, standard ones-
The newly refurbished cyclones in sparkle silver-
Interior wise being the meridian it has a good spec which included the half leather interior and to my surprise came a load cluck when I pressed the aircon button (so very rare for this to work in any 306 nowadays), even found an invoice for a lower pipe and a regass which was nice. As the interior was the later meridian spec this can stay as is, just needs a general clean to smarten it up.
I started off with changing the wheels, although it had the xsi style wheels and they were in good condition generally a couple had started to blister and I knew it would bug me, I fitted a fresh set of cyclones and whilst here replaced the smaller brakes for new gti6 discs and pads and a set of fully refurbished calipers, to match the rear I fitted a replacement set of caliper sliders and also replaced the corroded rear back plates with a new set that I had painted to preserve them. I removed the tyres off the old wheels and put them onto the cyclones, the tyres were in a great condition and being goodyears plus they all matched I thought it was rude not too.
Front brakes before, standard issue-
A fully refurbished gti6 caliper-
With the hubs etc all cleaned down and the new brakes all fitted and bled up, much better to fill the wheels-
I then turned the attention to the rear brakes, these although look scruffy were in good order so just cleaned up the brake disc centre, painted it and replaced the caliper sliders-
Before-
After
Oh yes also replaced the rear disc backing plates, once i received them had them plated sparkle silver to kerb the corrosion in the future, bit of a difference-
Now-
Certainly looks great now with the wheel on and the brakes all looking nice and fresh, rear-
Front-
With the brakes sorted it was time to move on to something else, I had the whole car machine polished as it has marks all over the car in the clear coat etc and swirls from the local petrol station car wash.
Excuse the indoor picture but here we have a freshly polished car, beleive it or not it came up really well-
With the paintwork looking as best as it could with some elbow grease the other little niggles were the roof bars, these had another set put on them to add a roof box, when I bought the car these were remove which had damed the paintwork under Neath, I decided to remove the rails and have them repainted in anthracite, no befor pictures but here they are all shiney and new-
Note the non factory fit sun roof, a bit of a bugger but it don't leak and works as it should, even the aircon works and is lovely with the weather we have had.
They really do look amazing the colour is also great, a bit of the colour-
With the brakes and the looks of it more or less where I wanted it to be I decided to put a good engine into the car which I had rebuilt for a customer, the customer for what ever reason decided not to repair his car so the engine destined for that job looked ideal for this little project, i decided not to use the six speed box as one i didnt have a good known gearbox and two i did this conversion literally overnight so couldnt be bothered with the hassle of a lift up reverse cable and the smaller rack assist arm, i kept the standard box which i knew was fine.
Over the years repairing and breaking a few 6s (only ones that couldn't be saved btw) I had managed to save up a good fair few little goodies like a k&n 57i kit so this was fitted, and I also have a set of throttle bodies (bought from a member off here) unsure whether to fit these yet
I don't have a pictures of the lump but as with all projects will update this thread as things progress.
