Hi guys just wondered if anyone can help.

I got some replacement indicators for my bike after its recent topple and assumed that some 12v replacements would be a simple swap.

Unfortunately this isn't the case as when I connect them up they don't flash but stay on constantly.

I presume this is because the new bulbs are just 2 watt rather than the standard 10 watt and thus causing a problem with the relay.

Can anyone tell me if I can pop in some resistors that will give the same effect as standard or should I look to change the relay?

You can do it with resistors but I wouldn't know which ones for bikes to be honest. Have a look on eBay. Years ago I changed my rear lights for LED ones and did the indicator bulbs as well. They were to little resistance so the indicators flashed to fast. Bought done ballast resistors from eBay and it sorted the issue.

Hmm found these and look like they should do the job.

Unfortunately it didn't occur to me that the wattage of the new indicators being a traditional filament bulb would be so different (same as and led).

If they are 2 watt filament they are not going to be very bright at all!! I bought some mini indicators for the back of the CBR and they were only 5 watt... You could hardly tell that they were flashing. I put 21 watt bulbs in (£1 from my local bike shop) and they are really bright again now, same as standard.

you can half figure it out with P = I x V and V = I x R

old bulb was 10watt new bulb is 2 watts......so your resistor needs to consume 8watts of power

so P = I x V is (8 = I x 12) so by rearranging the equation its 8/12 = I = 0.6666

so V = I x R is 12 = 0.6666 x R so by again rearranging the equation 12/0.6666 = R = 18ohm

youll need an 18 ohm resistor or there abouts

18ohm at 8 watts...... you can buy a singular powere resistor or put a few lower power rated resistor in parralell

Cant get them in the same fitment as the bulbs that came with the indicators.

Although only 2 watt they are no less visible than the OE 10 watts.
