Hi Guys,

Well I have a very nicely converted 205, all new parts wherever possible.

I have the OE fuel pipes at the injector rail so its not that. I have a 106 GTI fuel filter. I have the Walbro 190 LPM fuel pump just fitted.

Now after 4k the engine seems to stutter, power loss then its all ok, and it is very intermittent. Im thinking its the pump as I have read they can be troublesome when fuel is running low. So on way to petrol station it did it in a very small amount, once filled halfway, it seems all ok till I went round a corner very fast it spluttered and power was lost for a sec.

Has anyone heard of the fuel pump seal going, maybe fuel pressure loss somewhere, im not sure yet need to investigate more.

Any ideas what I can check over that I haven't thought of yet, some days its absolutely fine not trouble, and it does seem to be more apparent when engine is over 90 c ie hot.

Cheers

You say when the engine is hot, could it be fuel evaporating?

I don't know, not heard of that before, could just be me cause it has happened during temp being in the 80's. My 6 gets to 110c ish and all that is fine.

Are 205's known to have fuel starvation on cornering issues? Dunno

I suspect not, but it's interesting to assess it for definite. I have a swirl pot on my setup to avoid such issues.

I have read something about the Walbro pump having issues with this, I didn't want to pay about 200 quid for a bosch pump.

I will have another look at the pump see if the pipe is short or anything, just checking on here if others with this problem have any ideas.

I have thought about getting a swirl just don't know much about them etc, thought they were just for rally cars etc.

The swirl pot is there to stop fuel starvation under cornering.

Basically in my setup, the standard tank lift pump fills the swirl pot and then the Bosch high flow pump takes the fuel from the pot straight to the rail.
The idea being that, as you go hard through a corner the fuel in the tank may fall momentarily to one side of the tank, but the fuel in the swirl pot will be available for the pump to take until you're through the corner and the fuel in the tank can be accessed once again by the tank pump to refill the swirl pot.

The insides of a swirl pot look like a 'helter skelter', this is to avoid fuel moving from one side to another in the pot as well. Yes

Fuel surge indeed, very hit and miss as to how badly 205's suffer from it.

Pump flows more than enough for stock gti6, just need to slow doen, have more fuel in the tank, or address the fuel surge.

I figured this was probably the issue. Yes

Sounds like you need a swirl pot then to cure this problem...
