Hello

I am after some advice on sealing the oil sump on my gti6. I have fitted a paper gasket made for the xsi but it is starting to leak after the first track day. It was not the easiest thing to fit so I am going to have a look at the gasket tomorrow to see if I caught it.

What do other people use to seal the sump? And what torque do people use for the sump bolts?

Stuart

general rule is gasket for steel sump, sealant for alloy.

torque as specified in the haynes manual.

Ok thanks that's useful to know. Do you know of a good sump sealant or is it best to use the Peugeot one?

anything the local motorfactor has really, wurth, loctite, meillor etc, they all do the job.

main problem most will have is oil running down the wall of the block into the joint, so if you can leave the engine standing with the sump off for a day or two and thoroughly degrease the area that will help keep the joint dryu.

place a decent bead on the sump, offer it up adn fit a few bolts loosely, dont press the sump fully home, just enough for the sealant to spread, leave for up to half an hour, then tighten fully evenly as specified, depends on the sealant you use though.
