Hi there,

I have an issue with my 6 powered 205.

As a favour to a friend I said I would test 2 of his ECU's on my car, so one evening we arranged to do it. I un plugged my ECU ready for him to turn up, but he didn't so I plugged it back in and headed in doors.

After coming out and expecting to be on my way I turned the key and got a load of clicking from the relay and the fuel pump running constantly. I have had this happen before and it took just minutes to sort after noticing a loose earth so I thought it must be that. Well it wasn't, I have earth checked all earth's and added extra straps.

I have checked that I haven't pushed any pins on the ECU back in and checked lives and switch live on relay, all is well. I also checked voltage at the coil packs and injectors. I have 12 volts on all on the second click of the ignition but less than 1 on cranking. AFAIK this isn't right :/
I have changed the crank sensor also

The relay was tested on my fathers car and it worked but it may have been on it's way out?? (I haven't tested his on mine as I have no access to it at the moment)
The relay now clicks constantly on second click of the key and sometimes needs a tap to run the fuel pump, which is running continuously while the relay continues to click.

Any help would be great, the running of the car has been trouble free for nearly 3 years and the engine has been out and back in in that time too. It is booked in for an MOT tomorrow and I have no other car! It's my daily!! aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Also the chap I was going to help had his ECU's tested and they were locked!! hahahaha!

Many thanks,

Mike

Sounds like a dodgy connection on the multi-function relay. Yes

Especially if you have to tap it to make the fuel pump operate. Also, check all fuses.

Thanks for the reply.

I have checked them all, I can get it to shut up by removing then re instating the relay while its on. The fuel pump still just continues to run whilst still not even a splutter when cranking, all fuses are fine too. Its a real ball ache for doing something so minor! Hahaha!

How did you come to this conclusion?

Well it is only an assumption at this point. A mate popped round with an un locked ecu this evening and it fired straight up. We tried 2 other ecu's last week which turned out to be locked and the same oddeties were happening as when my ecu was plugged in.

205's starter wire is too thin as standard, they do wear out, it goes from key switch to starter.

This is the problem with 'open' ecu's rather than proper unlocked ones. I've no idea how they lock themselves but I've had it happen twice now.

Yeah, 'soft' unlocked ECU's do have a habit of doing this for some annoying reason. Sad

I can only imagine the immobiliser wires were not tidied up, no issues with mine after 6 years.
