Hi Guys

Just wanted to pick some brains. In the last week or so the water temperature has been getting very hot, it's even reached the red zone at one point. In the intermin I've been turning up the heat and as long as I'm moving this seems to keep the temperature down. It had a new radiator and thermostat last October, I can't see any obvious signs of a leak in the system somewhere.

Apparently there is another thermostat that controls the fan. I conducted a test this morning; the fan came on at about 85 degrees but didn't saty on for long and hadn't reduced the temperature before it turned off.

Could it be the fan thermostat? Unsure

Until this started the temperature was always right on the middle of the gauge, never shifted.

certainly sounds like a thermostat.

The water level hasn't gone down I assume? Does the rad/pipework feel hot to touch when up to temp?

The coolent level seems normal to me, as for how hot it is I've not thought to touch anything! I'm fairly sure it's hot though as the air coming through the air vents is hot hot hot.

The rad fan switch is just below the top hose on rad.

It is a twin speed switch,so your fan should kick in at half speed first, then if that does not bring temp down it should kick in at full speed.Yes

Are you deffo sure your coolant is really as hot as gauge is saying?Dunno
It could be your sender for your gauge is knackered and your coolant is not really over heating.Wink

might be that when your new rad etc was fitted the heater matrix wasnt bled properly. undo the thumb screw with the engine running or make a topper bottle with this undone to fill it. its bled when water squirts out the bleed screw hole in your engine bay just on the back of the heater matrix.

saying that flush, depending or your collant colour, flush your coolant with water untill its stays nice n clear then add your final coolant solution.
