as i understand its a very common problem and ive had it with both my gti's.

the the chairs base wing bit is worn through and the foam underneath has worn away. sadly the leather seats in my xsi are all leather with out the suede bits in the middle so i cant straight swap em Sad

i do however have a matching front passenger seat from my crashed gti that is in perfect nick.

can i swap their bases over? (just the foam and leather), has anyone done it before? is ther an faq on swapping them over?

thanks in advance for your advice

jim

Yes you can Smile I did it with my old gti seats with a spare passenger seat i got. Lift the seat and you will see tucked away in each corner a bolt. Undo it and lift the squab off and fit the new one. Job done!

The frame of my drivers seat is f**ked, But the seats are MINTy much MINT face in terms of leather etc.
It it possiblle to kind of tranplant the roller and and the metalwork type bits at the bottom from another seat and reuse the top and the cushion of my seat or no?

The whole frame is built with no intention of it being taken apart. Mostly welded and riveted. If i was you, get a new seat and swap the base but the top is a right PITA. You have to take the cover off and they are an absolute bas**rd to get back on lined up properly.

A passenger seat base onto a drivers seat?

I've got a couple in bits and no way they will swap over, totally different sponge and cover.Dunno

Ph1 I've got in bits.

Total different design of base pass to drivers, pass foam comes off leaving the base frame fitted to seat, drivers side foam comes off complete with seat base/frame by undoing 4 bolts.the shape of the foam is different, and the height of the foam where the metalwork goes into bolsters is different.Thumbs down

while its off the drivers one i can bodge fix the foam underneath with some newly cut danks foam and duct tape.
