my gti is missing the plastic cover that hides the seperate coil packs and wiring loom.

today i thought might as well swap it over to the gti, then realised this cover on the xsi has the coil pack built into it.

as far as fitment goes it will physically fit. just wanna chek on the electrical side

the xsi coilpack has a waterproof plug with only a four pin connectors in it. my phase one gti wiring loom has 8 wires in this section.

is it a simple case of pairing spark plugs and doubling up each wire feed to turn 8 wires into 4, with a bit of soldering and cutting, (if so which plugs do i double up with?)

or is it more complicated than that, like the xsi coilpack being to weak or two cylinders dont fire at the same time.

cheer for the advice in advance.

jim

The 4 coils on the GTI are there for better more controllable spark. You'll probably find the xsi one has 2 coils at one end therefore running wasted spark system which is entirely different.

Simple answer is don't waste your time. I have a spare coil pack cover for a GTI kicking about if you want one? If your coming to pugfest I can bring with?

ah i see. i was racking my brains over this for a bit and i figured it probably cant be done as easily as i first thought.

i have 4 untested ones knocking about myself from my crashed gti.this question is purely asthetics on a budget, ive got two cars one i want and one i dont so im seeing what i can do on the cheap.

if i can get the beast on the road before then ill try and come to take you up on that offer. you can see the exact opposite of a showroom condition gti Smile

cheers for offer again

jim
