Hello all,
I have had a rough few days with my trusty Y reg 306HDi.
For a few weeks now the drivers electric window switch has been a bit temperamental, buy the switch not always working when pressed.
This came to a head when on my way home from a particularly gruelling night shift the window went down then would not come up again.
On getting home I was fiddling with the glass trying to lever it up as not to leave the window completely open.
You guessed it .... the window smashed whilst in the down position Sad .

I replaced the glass and proceded to obtain a new switch mechanism from the scrap yard (the one with 2 buttons on it and the wing mirror control).
This didn't work, so I then went to great trouble to access and remove the actual motor (below) and again got one from the scrap yard.

This was working in the yard as the dealer showed me it.
I plugged it in whilst there to my car and again it worked ok.
I also got another switch unit just in case there were any further problems.
Once I started putting all this back together - the window will still not work.
The switched are making what I am told is an 'arc' noise which is as if there is some power trying to get through but the motor will not budge.
I spoke to a mechanic who advised me to look at the wiring loom in the door.
I could not see any wires broken but the earth connection looks as though it has been burnt out compared to the other connections ( see pic below).

As you can see the large earth lead goes into the connection that is slightly damaged.
I am clutching at straws here I'm afraid.
Please can anyone give me some advice as to where i go with this now?

Any help is very much appreciated as always!!

Cheers

Mark

quite likely to be the door wiring, however that looks to have been replaced previously as there is no sealant in the back of the plug like you get with the factory looms.

it would be worthwhile tracing that loom back and ensuring it was connected to the car loom in a decent enough manner.

clean that grubby pin up and make sure it makes good contact with the plug on the door also.
